Transfer Rater: Draxler to Reds, Sanchez to Real

Liverpool play down Sneijder link

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said he is doubtful that the club will move for Wesley Sneijderamid reports that the Inter milan midfielder is willing to take a major pay cut to enable a transfer.

Rodgers has played down the possibility of a move for Sneijder, who is mulling over a move to Turkish club Galatasaray.

The Dutchman’s representatives are understood to have indicated that he is interested in a move to England. But his current salary of around £6.5 million a year is well beyond what Liverpool can afford.

Another barrier to a deal is the fact that, at 28, Sneijder is well above the age range of signings that have been targeted under the transfer policy of the club’s American owners.

Managing director Ian Ayre declared this week that Fenway Sports Group’s policy of aiming to sign players aged under 24 is not set in stone.

Asked about the possibility of signing Sneijder, Rodgers told the Daily Mail: “I couldn’t see that happening. Daniel Sturridge was our main priority, so we’ll see what else is available.”

Liverpool have made no official enquiry regarding Sneijder, but the midfielder is believed to have indicated he would be interested in talks.
