Rene Girard to leave Lille as coach at the end of 2014-15 Ligue 1 season

Lille have announced coach Rene Girard will leave his role this summer.

Girard was named Ligue 1 coach of the year for the second time last season after leading Les Dogues to third place.

But they lie eighth this term and Saturday's game at Metz will be the 61-year-old's last at the helm.

A club statement read: "LOSC and coach Rene Girard will bring an end to their collaboration at the end of the 2014-15 season. This decision has been taken by mutual agreement between the two parties after two years of good co-operation."

Ivory Coast coach Herve Renard has been widely tipped as Girard's successor, with an announcement to be made by the club before the end of the month.

Girard previously enjoyed success at Montpellier, winning the 2012 Ligue 1 title a year after reaching the Coupe de la Ligue final, and the 61-year-old should attract interest from clubs with coaching vacancies this summer.

Lille's statement continued: "When it was time to look to the future and work on the next challenge, LOSC and Rene Girard took the decision not to extend their relationship beyond this season.

"President Michel Seydoux and the club want to underline the human qualities and values of Rene Girard, with whom the relationship has always been sincere and respectful. LOSC and its directors wish him the best of success in the future.

"Rene Girard's assistants, Gerard Bernardet and Nicolas Girard, will also leave LOSC. The new coach of LOSC will be announced before May 30."
