Liga MX side Tigres has announced that it will renovate a school for every home game in which the crowd shouts "Tigres" instead of an offensive anti-gay slur when the goalkeepers take goal kicks. The goal kick chant -- aimed at opposition goalkeepers -- has been ruled anti-gay by FIFA and the Mexican federation has been fined eight times when it has happened at El Tri games, but it has continued unabated in Liga MX. "Tigres will renovate one school for each game in which 'Tigres' is shouted in all of the goal kicks," read a tweet from the club. The initiative appears to have come from local filmmakers, who created a short video in Monterrey aimed at persuading Tigres to back the idea. Tigres' next home game is against Queretaro on Saturday, with the women's team set to play its debut Liga MX Femenil home game against Chivas straight after in Estadio Universitario. Santos Laguna has also attempted to stamp out the goalkeeper chant, releasing a statement on July 31 asking fans to shout "Santos" when the opposition keeper takes a goal kick. The Mexican federation has encouraged fans not to use the chant and is aware that a stadium ban could be enforced in the future at national team level, although many pundits have pointed out that some action should be taken in Liga MX as well.
