Rachid Ghezzal makes Algerian history for Leicester vs. Liverpool

Rachid Ghezzal made Premier League history on Saturday when he netted his first Premier League goal in Leicester City's 2-1 home defeat by Liverpool.

The 26-year-old's 63rd-minute strike, following an error by Reds stopper Alisson, wasn't able to turn the tide of the contest following opening goals from Sadio Made and Roberto Firmino.

However, Ghezzal's goal saw Leicester become the first team in the history of the Premier League to have had three Algerian players score for them in the tournament.

Preceding Ghezzal's maiden strike for the club, both Riyad Mahrez and Islam Slimani had also netted in the tournament for the East Midlanders.

Mahrez was part of the side that won the Premier League in 2016, and left the club to join Manchester City for £60 million this summer.

Slimani was unable to replicate his compatriot's form in England, and only managed eight goals in 35 league games before being loaned to Newcastle United in January 2018.

He will spend this season on loan with Fenerbahce, having moved to the Super Lig giants in August.

Ghezzal's showing against Liverpool was his first start for Leicester since moving to the club from AS Monaco during the offseason. He'd previously made two substitute appearances in the tournament, and also netted in the midweek League Cup victory over Fleetwood Town.
