Leicester striker Jamie Vardy a doubt for Fleetwood FA Cup return

Leicester striker Jamie Vardy is a major doubt for a fairytale return to his former club Fleetwood in the FA Cup on Saturday.

England forward Vardy is struggling with a groin injury and has yet to train ahead of the FA Cup third-round game at Highbury.

Vardy joined Leicester from Fleetwood for £1 million in 2012 and has become an international as well as winning the Premier League in 2016.

But he is unlikely to make an emotional return to Fleetwood, nicknamed the Cod Army, after suffering the injury at Liverpool last weekend.

Boss Claude Puel said: "We will see. If he is not 100 percent, then we will not risk him.

"He is not training with the team and is just doing some exercises in the gym so, for the moment, it is not good for him.''

Wes Morgan and Danny Simpson are missing with hamstring injuries, but Adrien Silva is expected to start following his delayed debut on New Year's Day.

"For Simpson, I don't know when he can come back into competition," Puel said. "For now, he is in the gym.

"Wes, I think it is not too bad, but I think he will be out for a few weeks."

Meanwhile, Besiktas are reportedly ready to make an approach for Leicester striker Islam Slimani once they have sold Cenk Tosun to Everton.

Slimani, Leicester's £30m record buy, has barely featured under Puel but scored as Vardy's replacement in Monday's 3-0 win over Huddersfield.

Puel added: "It is important to discuss with all the players. We have a lot of options. We cannot give them all the game time they want.

"It is important to have a better balance of the squad.''
