Craig Shakespeare: Leicester 'could do with a win' after West Brom draw

Jamie Vardy and Leicester City were again frustrated by West Brom.

Craig Shakespeare conceded Leicester "could do with a win" after they were held to a 1-1 draw by West Brom.

Leicester had not beaten West Brom on home soil since 1994 and that hoodoo was destined to continue when Nacer Chadli curled in a superb 30-yard free kick just after the hour mark.

Riyad Mahrez equalised 10 minutes from time, but Leicester were unable to go on and get that elusive victory.

The Foxes remain in the Premier League relegation zone with only one win from eight games, but Shakespeare believes one result could change their season.

"When you have as much possession as we did and then go a goal down you are always worried how it affects the players, but we showed the spirit we have and the resilience and we deserved a goal," he told BBC Sport.

"We could do with a win, make no mistake. I see them in training every day in terms of the quality and endeavour. Once we get that win then hopefully we will climb up the table.

"We know what we have to do. It is tight down there and one win takes you three or four places up and that is what we aim to do."

After missing a golden chance, Riyad Mahrez made amends to earn Leicester a share of the points against West Brom.

Shakespeare was pleased to see Mahrez respond with a positive performance after he was dropped at Bournemouth prior to the international break.

"He didn't go away with Algeria and stayed at the training ground and worked really hard and gave me an issue in terms of starting him tonight," said Shakespeare. "He had an opportunity before that, which with his quality he'd expect to score and he'll probably be disappointed about that.

"But he showed again that he's got that character to keep going and he got his reward with the goal. It was a great first touch by Riyad and a really good finish."

Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel admitted he was unsighted for Chadli's free kick.

"I was struggling to see it from the start," he told Sky Sports. "I thought it would have to be one heck of a strike to get it over a big wall like that.

"It is frustrating. It was a good strike, but as a keeper if you can't see the ball you really struggle to make any kind of impact."
