Leicester's Claudio Ranieri deserves Italy honour - Prime Minister Renzi

Italy's Prime Minister Matteo Renzi says he is going to put Claudio Ranieri forward for an honour after he guided Leicester City to the Premier League title.

Speaking to Rtl radio, Renzi commended Ranieri for his achievement and said he warrants some form of recognition by the Italian state.

"I'm going to propose to [Italy's President Sergio] Mattarella and the committee that Claudio be honoured, to pay tribute to this great Italian," Renzi said, according to ANSA. "He's delivered a great message by saying that you must always believe."

Ranieri won his first major league title against all odds with two games of the Premier League season to play.

His achievement has dominated the Italian media in recent days with numerous congratulations from his peers and a Twitter message from Renzi hailing "the biggest achievement in the history of English football."
