Leicester's Leonardo Ulloa humbled by suggestion to rename streets

Leicester City striker Leonardo Ulloa has told ESPN Radio in Argentina that it would be "very strange but very nice" if a street is named after him following the club's Premier League glory.

Claudio Ranieri's side clinched a famous Premier League title on Monday after second-placed Tottenham Hotspur failed to win at Chelsea, with the match ending in a 2-2 draw.

Leicester's mayor, Sir Peter Soulsby, said in April that the team's stars could see streets named after them should they claim their historic glory.

"Town Hall Square will not be big enough this time," Soulsby said. "Leicester has honoured its sporting stars in the past. There is an area named after golfers and there is also a [Gary] Lineker Road.

"It has been a real team effort, so as well as [Jamie] Vardy Vale we would need to have [Kasper] Schmeichel Street, [Danny] Drinkwater Drive and Ranieri Road."

On that possibility, Ulloa said: "Really if they do that, it would be something really nice. It is very strange but very nice, that a street would have my name, especially because I am an Argentine living in England. That means something. This was very intense and I am very happy."

Asked about how Leicester, who were 5000-1 to be champions at the start of the season, managed to win the title, the Argentine added: "The important thing is that we won.

"We suffered a lot but we are the champions. In January, we played Chelsea, Liverpool, City and Arsenal.

"We got nine of 12 [points] and we began to see that we were playing well and that we were beating big clubs. So then we started to see that we could finish like this. The team were very solid from the beginning.

"There aren't a lot of Argentines who have this title so it is very gratifying. And to have won it by beating the big clubs who have much more economic power.

"Last year we were saved from relegation and this year the club were without any big-name stars, but now we have a lot and we accomplished all this. It is very deserving that this is happening to us after everything that we went through last year."

Ulloa also reserved praised for manager Ranieri, saying of the Italian: "He is a coach who is very close to the players. He adapted to the group and the team. And then he turned over all his experience for the good of the club. That is why we won the title."
