Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri: Francesco Totti talk is 'speculation'

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has said reports linking Roma talisman Francesco Totti with a move to the Midlands in the summer are "speculation."

Roma captain Totti is out of contract in the summer, with the indications being that he will not be given an extension to his playing deal.

The 39-year-old, the oldest player ever to score in the Champions League, has spent his whole career at Roma -- but the thought of having one more run in the competition with Leicester could tempt him.

Ranieri worked with Totti at the Giallorossi between 2009 and 2011, but speaking at a news conference after his side's 4-0 win over Swansea on Sunday, he said: "Could Totti come to Leicester? It's just speculation.

"Totti is Roma, and Roma are Totti. And Totti is, and will continue to be, very useful to Roma."

Totti has scored three goals in his last two games, and Roma fans have sided with him in a reported dispute with coach Luciano Spalletti which both have tried to play down.

After earning a dramatic win against Torino at the Stadio Olympico in midweek, Totti wrote on his website: "The fairytale we witnessed on Wednesday night represents something unique to the fans of this club, like me and like you.

"My goals earned the team and the club that I've always loved a win. This should unite and not divide. Only one thing counts -- celebrating with my teammates, the coach, the club and our unique fans."

Spalletti, speaking at a news conference ahead of Roma's clash with Napoli on Monday, said: "I appreciated that message a lot.

"Francesco's important within the squad, and I will back him whatever role he decides to have here in years to come -- if he's happy, so am I.

"I am not here to generate any rivalry. I am here to get results. Maybe I was a bit curt, but for me the team comes first and I've always thought that. I need all the resources, including Francesco."
