Christian Fuchs: Leicester City's only target is Premier League safety

Leicester City full-back Christian Fuchs has said avoiding relegation remains the Premier League leaders' only objective for the season.

Leicester's 3-0 victory at Newcastle on Saturday saw them move one point clear at the top of the table as both Manchester City and Arsenal suffered defeats.

However, Fuchs -- who joined Leicester on a free transfer from Schalke in the summer -- said they are not getting carried away with their success.

"When you ask me now how long we'll stay at the top, I'll say: It's more important to see where we are coming from," the Austrian told kicker. "The club narrowly escaped relegation last season. We will remain humble and will continue to work hard."

Premier League clubs traditionally view 40 points as the total required to avoid relegation and, as Leicester already have 28 after just 13 games, they should achieve their target sooner rather than later.

"No objective other than avoiding relegation has been set," he said. "This remains our goal, and we need a few more points. It would be nice to secure that by the end of the first half of the season."

On Saturday, the Foxes host second-placed Manchester United, and Fuchs is delighted to be part of a top-of-the-table clash.

"You have to savour the fact that we, Leicester, are now going into an absolute top match against Manchester United," he said.
