Claudio Ranieri of Leicester city OK with manager of the month shortlist

Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri would happily accept being pipped to the Premier League manager of the month award every month.

The affable Italian, formerly in charge at Chelsea, has enjoyed an unbeaten return to the English top flight this season, winning eight points from the Foxes' opening four matches.

However, he was beaten to the August prize by Manuel Pellegrini following Manchester City's perfect start to the campaign.

Ranieri, whose side host midlands rivals Aston Villa on Sunday, congratulated Pellegrini on the accolade and hoped this was not the last time he was nominated for the award -- because being regularly included on the monthly four-man short-list would mean his Leicester team were maintaining their early-season momentum.

"I am very happy. I want to congratulate Manuel Pellegrini for winning," Ranieri said.

"I would like to be nominated every month -- without winning. Sometimes the winner in the next match, he loses.

"If I am nominated every month that means Leicester stay in a very high position in the table."

The Premier League resumes this weekend following the international break and Ranieri stressed the importance of Leicester adopting the same mindset that brought them success prior to the two-week sabbatical.

"It is important to restart in the Premier League again because there was a break," he said. "I saw the players [on Friday] after 10 days and now it is important to recharge the group - to be the same and begin again.

"It is important to start with the right mentality, we start with zero points in the Premier League on Sunday.

"I know the Aston Villa matches are very tough, but all the matches are tough."

There may be one slight change against Villa as new signing Nathan Dyer might be involved following his loan arrival from Swansea.

Ranieri said one of the attractions of signing Dyer was that, compared to their other targets, the 27-year-old was immediately ready for action.

He said: "When we watched a lot of wingers we said Nathan Dyer plays here and he knows the Premier League very well. It is not important for him to adapt. He is ready. It was important we had the opportunity to sign him.

"I wanted another winger because I had just two wingers plus Joe Dodoo.

"I needed another because the wingers have to run a lot. Nathan can give us his speed, he is very fast and quick and has ability on the ball.

"It is very hard to stop him one on one, and he can cross the ball."

Ranieri also confirmed that free agent Dwight Tiendalli, a full-back recently released by Swansea, had been on trial with Leicester but the club had decided not to pursue the matter any further.

"We saw him but we are complete in that position because we have two players there."
