League of Ireland veteran retires in style with lovely farewell letter

Shamrock Rovers training in Parken Stadium - Pat Flynn
Pat Flynn has had a long career in Ireland.

Bringing an emotional end to his 14-year career, Irish right-back Pat Flynn officially called time on his playing days over the weekend.

Never the most glamorous of players, Flynn still represented most of the League of Ireland's biggest clubs, winning the First Division title with Longford Town in 2014 to add to the two consecutive titles he won with Shamrock Rovers in 2010 and 2011.

He even had the pleasure of marking Cristiano Ronaldo when the Portuguese forward made his Real Madrid debut in...

Finn Harps' Kevin McHugh severs finger in accident with fence

Irish footballer Kevin McHugh has had surgery to try to save his finger after his wedding ring got caught in a fence.

The Finn Harps captain said he was chasing after a football when the accident occurred. He then drove himself to the hospital.

While driving, he tweeted a photo of the injury and wrote: "Think that's my season over."

He also said there might have been "too much...

Arsene Wenger advises Arsenal scout to take Shamrock Rovers chance

Arsenal scout Stephen Bradley says he was given Arsene Wenger's blessing to take over as caretaker manager of Irish club Shamrock Rovers.

Bradley, 31, a former Arsenal academy player, is now the club's main scout for Ireland and Northern Ireland.

And so when he was asked to take temporary charge of Rovers after Pat Fenlon was sacked he felt he needed to ask the Arsenal manager first.

"'I spoke to the boss and he's given me permission to do it until the end of the season," Bradley told the Irish...

Irish side deny move for Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini

Manuel Pellegrini can cross Cobh Ramblers off his list of potential employers for next season.

League of Ireland side Cobh Ramblers have posted a cheeky denial that Manuel Pellegrini will be taking over as manager at the club in the summer.

The Manchester City manager, who is set to leave the Etihad in the summer, was spotted in the County Cork town on Sunday on a short break during international week.

The 62-year-old is looking for a new club for next season with Pep Guardiola taking over at City next season. However, Cobh insist they will not be taking on the Chilean.

Irish kids from Crumlin United FC combine to score fantastic team goal

It's not often we dip into the Republic of Ireland youth football scene here at Toe Poke, but if this goal is any measure of the quality on offer then we might start paying a bit more attention.

As posted to their official Facebook page, Dublin-based Crumlin United FC have been quick to bestow an effort scored by one of their players last weekend as "Goal of the Season" and it's not hard to see why!

The move was started and finished (in spectacular fashion) by 7-year-old Sean McDonnell but there's...
