Roma agree to sign Mohamed Salah from Chelsea, report says

Roma have agreed a deal to take winger Mohamed Salah on loan from Chelsea, with an obligation to sign the winger permanently in the summer, according to the Telegraph.

The Blues were not expecting to do any major business in January but are prepared to sell Salah, who is yet to start in the Premier League this season.

Roma had hoped to take Salah on loan but Chelsea told the Italian giants they would have to make the switch permanent at the end of the campaign, according to Press Association.

Chelsea originally demanded 1 million euros for an initial six-month loan spell, PA reported, but the teams settled around 700,000 euros, the Telegraph said. Roma will cover Salah's wages until the end of the season, when they will then pay a fee of 14 million euros to acquire Salah for the long term.

The deal would see the Blues recuperate the fee they paid Basel to sign Salah just 12 months ago and also free up funds to meet the 35 million-euro release clause of Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado.

Roma are also in negotiations with Dnipro for Yevhen Konoplyanka and will turn their attention to the Ukraine playmaker if Chelsea refuse to soften their stance, PA reported.

Andre Schurrle has also been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, with both Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg reportedly keen.

Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs, however, insists they hold no interest in signing Schurrle and told PA: "There is nothing in it whatsoever."

Jose Mourinho would be happy to end the January transfer window with his current squad, despite being linked with a big-money move for Cuadrado.

Chelsea have made contact with the Italian club about Cuadrado's availability but PA reported a formal offer will only materialise if Salah or Schurrle are sold.

Fiorentina, who are sixth in Serie A and chasing Champions League qualification, do not want Cuadrado to leave mid-season but would be helpless should Chelsea trigger the player's 26.8 million-pound release clause.

Also Thursday, Reading sealed the loan signing of Chelsea's Nathaniel Chalobah until the end of the season, while the Blues also confirmed that Marko Marin completed his loan to Anderlecht. The 25-year-old winger spent the first half of the season with Fiorentina but will now move to Belgium.

The Blues also announced that Mexican attacker Ulises Davila has moved his loan from Tenerife in Spain to Vitoria in Portugal.
