Ronaldinho facing sack at Queretaro after failure to report for preseason

Mexican club Queretaro have warned Ronaldinho he could be sacked if he fails to report for duty in the coming days.

Ronaldinho, 34, signed for Queretaro in September but has failed to report for preseason training, which began on Dec. 8, after being allowed to spend time in Brazil and the United States to resolve some personal matters.

The former Barcelona star has been told he must report on Dec. 26 to hold talks and assess his fitness and commitment, and AFP has quoted club president Arturo Villanueva as saying he would prefer "to take on someone else" if Ronaldinho fails to arrive within the next week.

The club's sporting director, Joaquin Beltran, told Mexican media that he recognised that the two-time world footballer of the year's attitude could provoke issues among the other players.

"It's something we have to talk about and we must, above all else, find a solution so that everyone is happy," he said, adding that he could not guarantee that Ronaldinho would still be playing for the club when the new season gets underway on Jan. 9.

He added: "The truth, without question, is that this is not something that makes us particularly happy because the players have been working hard [...] but we are confident he will come to see us on the 26th and sit and talk for an exchange of views."

He said that Ronaldinho would have to be "100 percent" ready to contribute to the team on the field.

"He's definitely a guy who makes the difference on the pitch, is fine tactically and at times can produce moments of magic with the ball," he said. "What worries us a bit is the physical side of things -- it is very important that he be physically ready to deliver on his quality as a footballer, which is not in doubt."
