Agger made 232 appearances for the Reds after arriving from the Danish Superliga club for six million pounds in January 2006.

Sources have told ESPN FC that Liverpool will receive around three million pounds for the Denmark captain.

Agger told Liverpool's website: "Liverpool have been such a big part of my life, that leaving is extremely difficult. I have turned down many offers to move to other Premier League and European clubs.

"I thank the Liverpool fans for the incredible backing they've given me in my time here. Liverpool are very special. I remain a fan for life. Every game I played at Anfield was a privilege."

Agger's long-term future at Anfield had been looking increasingly uncertain following the arrival of Dejan Lovren from Southampton for 20 million pounds in July.

That signing meant that manager Brendan Rodgers had three left-sided centre-backs in his squad -- Lovren, Agger and Mamadou Sakho.

Agger has remained a popular figure at Brondby, whose fans chanted his name repeatedly when Liverpool played a friendly there in July.

The Danish club's chairman Jan Bech Andersen confirmed on Aug. 1 that he wanted to sign Agger, and has succeeded in getting the deal completed before Monday's transfer deadline.

The move will allow the 29-year-old to focus on regaining form and fitness after a disappointing 12 months.

He made only 16 Premier League starts for Liverpool last season as he was troubled by injuries.

Agger lost a regular starting place after suffering a rib injury in September, and was then ruled out for a further six weeks with a calf problem sustained in January.

Rodgers, though, paid tribute to the defender for his contribution at Anfield over the last eight-and-a-half years.

"Daniel loves Liverpool and the club's supporters, and has a unique connection with them," Rodgers said.

"When we had the privilege to play Brondby in preseason, we saw the esteem he is held in and I can understand why he would want to return there.

"On behalf of everyone at Liverpool, I thank Daniel for his service to the club and hope he finishes his career with some happy times in Denmark."
