Aston Villa are reported to be one of the three clubs interested in signing the 25-year-old, who has struggled to impress at Old Trafford.

ESPN FC sources indicate Cleverley has been told he will be allowed to leave United in this transfer window, with an eight million pound fee believed to be the asking price from the Old Trafford club.

Hull City and Everton are reported to be the other two clubs eager to land Cleverley, who looks set to be one of the imminent departures from United after head coach Louis van Gaal confirmed on Thursday that "players will go and new players will come in" at United before Monday's transfer deadline.

On Thursday, Wilfried Zaha returned to Crystal Palace on loan, while reports continue to link Shinji Kagawa with an exit.
