Sami Khedira staying at Madrid

Having acknowledged less than 48 hours ago that he no longer had a place at Real Madrid, Sami Khedira has opted to stay at the club according to manager Carlo Ancelotti.

While Real were playing Atletico in the Spanish Super Cup on Friday, Khedira was not even in the country after being left out of the squad. Instead, he spent Friday watching his brother Rani play for RB Leipzig in the 2. Bundesliga and later told German publication Bild: "For Real, I'm just a bit left out. Until Aug. 31, anything is possible."

Ancelotti had said the German had permission to leave after Real's defeat in the Super Cup, but in a news conference ahead of their game on Monday night revealed: "Khedira is happy here and he is staying. The matter is resolved and he stays at Real Madrid."

Di Maria's impending 80 million euro transfer to Manchester United appears to have lead to a rethink among the hierarchy at the Bernabeu, and Khedira, 27 now seems set to see out the last year of his current contract and then leave next summer on a free transfer.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Fiorentina and Bayern Munich have all been monitoring the German World Cup winner's situation.
