Lambert blasts Koeman over Vlaar

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has criticised Southampton head coach Ronald Koeman after he spoke about his interest in bringing Villa captain Ron Vlaar to the south coast.

Koeman, whose reshaped side produced a good performance before being beaten 2-1 at Anfield on Sunday, said he would "really like" to add compatriot Vlaar to his squad.

"I think he is disrespecting when talking about other team's players when they are still their players. I think that's wrong," Lambert told Sky Sports.

"I wouldn't mind if he picked up the phone, but you don't go public on it. That's the thing that annoyed me the most, and the stance is still exactly the same with Ron."

Netherlands international Vlaar -- who played under Koeman at Dutch club Feynoord -- still has one year remaining on his contract, but Villa are expected to offer him a new deal.
