Montpellier have confirmed the signing of striker Lucas Barrios on a one-year loan deal from Spartak Moscow.

Barrios, 29, struggled to find form with the Russian club, scoring two goals in 16 appearances after signing from Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande for seven million euros last summer.

The Paraguay international is in line to make his debut against Marseille in Montpellier's second Ligue 1 game of the 2014-15 campaign.

Laurent Nicollin, the club's president, said: "I am very excited about his arrival. He is a player of great quality."

The forward thanked Montpellier for showing confidence in him, and vowed to work hard for the fans this season.

"First of all I would like to thank the chairman and the coach trusting me and letting me come," he told the club's official website. "I wanted to stay in Europe and be at a well-organised club, and Montpellier offered me this opportunity.

"I cannot wait to be on the field to help my new team. I am very happy to start this new experience and I hope it will be constructive. I can promise the fans a lot of effort and hard work."

Barrios won the Bundesliga twice with Borussia Dortmund, scoring 39 goals in 83 appearances for BVB between 2009 and 2012.#INSERT type:inline END#
