Arturo Vidal sits out Juventus friendly

Massimiliano Allegri and midfielder Paul Pogba look ahead to their pre-season friendly against the ISL All Stars in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Arturo Vidal was on the sidelines as Juventus defeated the Indonesia Super League All Stars 8-1 in a friendly in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Chile international Vidal has been strongly linked with a big-money move to Manchester United, but earlier this week Chile's World Cup manager Jorge Sampaoli said he believed Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal had concerns over his fitness following an end-of-season surgery.

"I know that the main problem in Vidal's $80 million (47 million pound) transfer from Juventus to Manchester United is Louis van Gaal's doubt over the improvement of Arturo's knee," Sampaoli told Chilean publication El Mercurio.

Patrice Evra made his Juventus debut in the match, with the summer signing from Manchester United coming on for Kwadwo Asamoah in the second half.

The game saw Fernando Llorente scored a hat trick in only six first-half minutes. Kingsley Coman made his first appearance for the Serie A champions, scoring his side's sixth, with Carlos Tevez, Sebastian Giovinco and Simone Pepe also finding the target after Andrea Pirlo's penalty had cancelled out the hosts' opener.

"I'm delighted, and I'd like to thank all my teammates, the coach and everybody here -- I've been given such a warm welcome and I already feel I am in my family," Evra told the official Juventus website.

"We took the game seriously and it's great to score so many goals, but we need to be ready for when the season starts."

Juve were cheered on by almost 60,000 fans, and Evra said he had been surprised to see that sort of turnout.

"To be honest, I only expected a reception like this from the fans for Manchester United here [in Indonesia], but this is why I chose to come to such a big club like Juve, because you get the same feelings you get at United."

Coach Massimiliano Allegri said he was pleased with "a good workout for the lads," with the Serie A season starting against Chievo Verona on Aug. 30.

"The lads are in pretty good shape for this stage of the season," he added. "It was a more than pleasant surprise to have all this affection from the fans, and we paid them back with a good performance."
