Monaco insist Falcao won't join Madrid

Monaco are confident Radamel Falcao will remain at the club despite Real Madrid continuing to be linked to the prolific forward.

Falcao, 28, has been strongly tipped to follow the path trodden by James Rodriguez earlier this summer between the principality and the Spanish capital, despite having signed a five-year contract with Monaco only last summer.

That speculation only intensified after his agent, Jorge Mendes, was spotted earlier this week meeting Madrid president Florentino Perez, who has publicly stated his admiration for Falcao.

Sidelined following a ruptured knee ligament sustained in January, the Colombia international made a successful return to action at the recent Emirates Cup, scoring the only goal in his club's win over hosts Arsenal.

ALL-TIME HIGHEST TRANSFER FEES

1) £85m Gareth Bale -- Tottenham to Real Madrid, Sept. 2013

2) £80m Cristiano Ronaldo -- Man Utd to R Madrid, June 2009

3) £75m Luis Suarez -- Liverpool to Barcelona, July 2014

4) £71m James Rodriguez -- Monaco to Real Madrid, July 2014

5) £59.7m Angel Di Maria -- R Madrid to Man Utd, August 2014

6) £56m Kaka -- AC Milan to Real Madrid, June 2009

Monaco sporting director Vadim Vasilyev told L'Equipe despite having had close, recent links to Madrid in relation to the sale of James, Falcao's name never came up in talks.

"I have met Real officials many times, and the Falcao dossier was never discussed. There are no talks, and we really are counting on him. I think he's happy to come back from injury and re-find his teammates," Vasilyev said, adding he had watched Falcao's return to action in north London with interest.

"He confirmed that he's a great player, a great goal scorer. He missed the World Cup, it was difficult for him psychologically. But he's a strong personality, and I hope it'll be his season at Monaco."

Vasilyev added he expects Falcao to flourish under new coach Leonardo Jardim with the striker not having always seen eye-to-eye with former boss, Claudio Ranieri.

"He had some difficult times, but the page has been turned, also thanks to the new staff," he added.

Promising centre-back Nicolas Isimat-Mirin had been expected to leave Monaco, but missed his plane bound for Saint-Etienne, who are hoping to sign the 22-year-old.

The former Valenciennes FC defender reportedly apologised repeatedly for the logistical snafu, and is due to talk to Saint-Etienne coach Christophe Galtier about the situation.

Isimat-Mirin, who has failed to establish himself at the Stade Louis II since arriving last summer, is said to still have his heart set on joining the ten-time L1 champions, despite an approach from Crystal Palace.
