New Real Madrid signing Keylor Navas says he is prepared to work hard to become the club's first-choice goalkeeper.

Navas, 27, joined Madrid from Levante on Monday and has signed a six-year contract with the European champions.

With Diego Lopez reportedly close to a move to Monaco, the Costa Rica international will find himself battling it out with captain Iker Casillas for the No. 1 spot.

But Navas, who was backed to be Carlo Ancelotti's first choice by readers, says he is prepared to bide his time before being given a chance.

"I'm very calm, I know I have to work a lot and make a big effort," he told a news conference after his official unveiling.

"At Real Madrid the best players are at the club. They have excellent goalkeepers.

"From here on I have to train and work hard every day so as to be ready when I get my chance."

Navas added: "I'm very calm. I've always said that I'm going to do my bit, work hard and do everything possible to be a better keeper.

"I think that if you work hard things go well and I hope that continues."

Navas will wear the No. 13 shirt at Madrid and will reportedly earn around 2.5 million euros at the club.

The goalkeeper expressed his gratitude at being given the chance to play for Los Blancos, while he is determined to help them to more trophies over the coming seasons.

"I want to thank God for the opportunity to make my dream come true. It's the most important day of my career as a player," he said.

"I want to thank Real Madrid for putting their faith in me, and I want to thank all the people of Costa Rica.

"I want to give my best. I'm happy to belong to the biggest club in the world and I'm proud to be standing before you today.

"I'm overjoyed, I'm going to give my all for Real Madrid. I hope to help the club to win a lot of trophies."
