Diego Lopez close to Monaco move

Real Madrid goalkeeper Diego Lopez is closing in on a move to Monaco, AS.com reports.

- Navas backed to claim No. 1 spot
- Rigg: Casillas struggles as U.S. tour ends

Both Monaco and Napoli had shown interest earlier in the summer, and Madrid had been keen to involve Lopez in the negotiations to sign James Rodriguez from the Ligue 1 side, but the keeper insisted he wanted to stay.

However, with Keylor Navas having joined from Levante and Iker Casillas still on the books, the 32-year-old has been told he is not in Real's plans and is now considering offers.

Monaco remain eager to secure his services and, having studied the Ligue 1 side's proposal with his family and agent Manuel Garcia Quilon, he is close to accepting an offer worth five million euros per year.

Despite Lopez now being open to a transfer, Madrid are still working on the details of his exit.

The European champions are reluctant to pay him the severance package he is due for breaking his contract, but the player and his agent have refused to negotiate.

They are demanding compensation for the three years remaining on his contract, which is worth 2.1 million euros a year.
