Newcastle sign Emmanuel Riviere

Newcastle have completed the signing of French striker Emmanuel Riviere from Monaco for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old becomes Alan Pardew's fifth signing of the summer and offers much-needed support up front after the departures of loan signings Loic Remy and Luuk de Jong and the out-of-contract Shola Ameobi.

"I'm very happy to be here at Newcastle," Riviere told the club's official website. "When the club spoke to me I said yes immediately. It was an easy decision because Newcastle is a big club with great fans and a good stadium."

The former France Under-21 international, who scored 13 goals in 36 appearances last season for Monaco, has signed a long-term deal and is looking forward to testing himself in England.

"My dream was always to play in the Premier League and Newcastle have given me the opportunity to realise that," he added.

His signature continues a successful summer for Pardew, who has already secured the services of Remy Cabella, Jack Colback, Siem de Jong and Ayoze Perez ahead of the 2014-15 season.

"This is an important signing because the striking area is one we really had to improve," Pardew said. "We have looked at Emmanuel for a while and we know he will score goals for us.

"He is quick, hungry for success and will love having 50,000 Geordies cheering him on and singing his name.

"I am really looking forward to integrating Emmanuel in the group and cannot wait to see him in action for us."

The Magpies are also waiting for Daryl Janmaat to formally complete his switch from Feyenoord after his proposed unveiling was postponed on Tuesday, although the delay was purely administrative.

The 24-year-old will replace Mathieu Debuchy, whose proposed move to Arsenal has been on hold while Newcastle complete their deal for Janmaat.
