Rob Green signs new QPR deal

FC's Shaka Hislop and Steve Nicol give their take on QPR's return to the Premier League.

Goalkeeper Rob Green has extended his stay at QPR by signing a new two-year deal with the Premier League club.

The 34-year-old replaced big-money signing Julio Cesar as Harry Redknapp's No. 1 goalkeeper last season and featured in 48 games as the R's secured a top-flight return through the playoffs.

Having previously played in the Premier League with Norwich, West Ham and QPR, Green has plenty of experience to his name and is happy to have re-signed at Loftus Road after his previous contract had expired.

"I'm really pleased to have signed the contract,'' he told QPR's official website.

"The first thing on my mind, after relaxing and enjoying winning promotion, was to get my future sorted, so I'm delighted we've managed to get everything done ahead of pre-season. I feel refreshed and recharged and I'm looking forward to the season ahead.''

Having signed for QPR in 2012, Green found his way into the first-team blocked when then-manager Mark Hughes also concluded a deal to sign Brazil international Cesar from Inter Milan.

But since being installed as Redknapp's regular goalkeeper following relegation in 2013, Green is looking to keep the position heading into the campaign.

"At the start of last season all I was focused on was playing football,'' he added. "Thankfully that happened and we got promoted at the end of it all. This season is very much the same. I want to play week in, week out.

"We want to aim high, but we won't get carried away. We learnt a lot of lessons last time, so we will keep our targets in-house and be fully focused on the season ahead.

"We can't underestimate the difficulties of the Premier League.''

Although QPR are yet to bring in any new faces since beating Derby in the playoff final in May, Green has followed Clint Hill, Armand Traore and Alejandro Faulin in penning new deals as Redknapp looks to put faith in the players who secured promotion.
