Fernando arrives at Man City from Portuguese side Porto.

The 26-year-old joined the Premier League champions from Porto for 15 million euros and has set his sights on securing a place in their team.

He told City's official website: "It is a dream to be here and to be part of this great club. I also hope to become one of the club's great players. What attracted me to Manchester City was the league and the club. The league and the club are known worldwide. In my opinion, there isn't a better league in the world.

"I left a good legacy at Porto, I hope I can repeat that at City, winning titles, playing regularly. That's what everyone can expect from me, willpower and dedication, always with the eyes on trophies, that's what City and I want."

Fernandinho and Yaya Toure were the first-choice midfield pair for Manuel Pellegrini last season and the Brazilian-born Fernando said it will be an "honour" to play alongside the Ivorian.

He added: "It won't be easy to get into that midfield but with a lot of work, every day I will give my best in order to have a chance to make a contribution to the team.

"The player I admire the most and I watch many of his games is Yaya Toure, he is a great player and it will be an honour to play alongside him."

The defensive midfielder said his strengths as a player are his ability to win the ball and give it to his teammates.

He explained: "I work hard, I always look for a way to get back the control of the ball as quick as possible and deliver it to my colleagues. I consider myself a good team member and I always try to be in my best on the pitch in order to transmit good energies to the players."
