Espanyol want Kiko Casilla resolution

Kiko Casilla has gone from strength to strength at Espanyol.

Espanyol president Joan Collet has admitted to frustration at Real Madrid's stalling regarding goalkeeper Kiko Casilla.

Former Madrid youth keeper Casilla joined Espanyol back in 2007 but Los Blancos retained a 50 percent share in his ownership and some control over his future.

Having impressed over recent seasons in the Espanyol first team, the 27-year-old -- believed to have a 20 million euro release clause in his contract -- has been linked with a move to Arsenal  this summer. But with only 12 months now left on his current deal, potential suitors are aware they could sign him next summer for free.

Espanyol would like to either sell now or tie the player down to a new long-term deal, however Madrid appear to be unsure how to resolve the situation. Uncertainty over the futures of their current senior goalkeepers Iker Casillas and Diego Lopez means the Bernabeu outfit could look to re-sign Casilla as back-up for whoever is first choice next season.

Espanyol chief Collet has now told AS that he wants the situation sorted out as both clubs could lose out financially should Casilla eventually move in summer 2015 for free.

"We have spoken [with Madrid] on different occasions and they have told us they were not sure of their position," Collet said. "Since then we have been still waiting. The clause was imposed by Madrid, and I understand that, but we are all running the risk that next year we will lose the sale. Madrid are then running the risk of losing their percentage."

Espanyol have deep financial difficulties, and had been hoping to raise money this summer by selling Mexico centre-back Hector Moreno. Moreno's impressive group stage performances at the current World Cup had raised hopes of the club receiving a fee of at least 10 million euros, however the defender broke his leg during the round of 16 game against the Netherlands, ending all talk of a move for the moment.
