Eric Abidal signs for Olympiakos

Olympiakos have signed French defender Eric Abidal from Ligue 1 club Monaco.

Recently, Monaco announced that Abidal, who joined from Barcelona last year, had agreed a one-year contract extension that would tie him to theclub until 2015.

However, Olympiakos have now announced on their official website that the 34-year-old has moved to Greece.

The player added on his personal Twitter account: "Very happy to have signed for Olympiakos. Thanks for the welcome and for your confidence."

No further details of the deal were released by either club, but Monaco thanked Abidal after confirming the move, writing on their official website: "AS Monaco wishes to thank Eric Abidal for everything he has brought to the club.

"He was captain and a key player during the past season, and AS Monaco wants to wish every success to Eric for the rest of his career."
