Schalke have signed Cameroon striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting from Mainz on a three-year deal.

- Said: Young players true to Cameroon's DNA

Former Hamburg player Choupo-Moting, 25, scored 20 goals in 74 Bundesliga appearances for Mainz, whom he joined in the 2011-12 season.

He featured in all three of Cameroon's World Cup group games, and Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt told his club's official website: "I'm delighted that he has decided to sign for us.

"He is very versatile but, first and foremost, our plan is to use him in a central attacking position.''

Choupo-Moting joins Jens Keller's squad on a free transfer and is in line to make his debut when they kick off their season at Hannover on August 23 before facing champions Bayern Munich in their first home game.
