Mathieu Debuchy in Arsenal talks

Mathieu Debuchy joined Newcastle from Lille in 2013.

Newcastle United defender Mathieu Debuchy has confirmed to L'Equipe that he is in discussions over a move to Arsenal.

- McNicholas: No need for Arsenal panic

Debuchy, 28, has been linked with a move to Arsenal, who are seeking a new right-back following the departure of Bacary Sagna, and there were reports that a deal was in place after the player appeared to confirm the switch on Instagram.

He has now denied announcing the move but did say talks are ongoing.

"It wasn't me who posted it on Instagram," he said. "Everyone is saying that, but nothing has been done. For the moment, we are discussing it. Arsenal are a great club. We'll see what happens."

The BBC reports that Newcastle are seeking around 10 million pounds for the France international.

The report adds that the Gunners are in talks to sign Barcelona's Alexis Sanchez for around 25 million pounds and would also like to bring in a holding midfielder and backup goalkeeper.
