Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka is hopeful Chelsea centre-back Kenneth Omeruo will return to the club on loan for the coming season.

The 20-year-old, who joined the Blues from Standard Liege in 2012, spent the second half of last term at Boro, making 14 appearances for the Championship side.

And according to Karanka, Omeruo, who started every game for Nigeria at the World Cup, is keen for another spell at the Riverside Stadium.

"He wants to join us, Chelsea want to send the player and so for this reason I don't think we have problems in getting Ken again," Karanka is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"I don't like him because he played a very good World Cup, I like him because he is a very good guy.

"He's a player who everybody knows here, everybody likes him and for this reason he is a player I want to take again."

Karanka has a good relationship with Chelsea, having been Jose Mourinho's assistant at Real Madrid.
