Fernandinho wary of James Rodriguez

Fernandinho thinks there is no way Brazil will man-mark Colombia's James Rodriguez when they face the World Cup's top scorer in Friday's quarterfinal.

Monaco playmaker Rodriguez has scored in every game in the tournament and his tally of five goals included a spectacular volley in the 2-0 victory over Uruguay.

Manchester City's Fernandinho, who came into Brazil's starting XI for the round-of-16 tie against Chile, could be a key player in manager Luiz Felipe Scolari's plan to subdue the 22-year-old, especially as holding midfielder Luiz Gustavo is suspended.

But the 29-year-old doubts that any one player will be detailed to police Rodriguez, who also has two assists in the World Cup.

"Wherever I have played, man-marking does not exist any more. It needs to be done zonally," Fernandinho told FIFA.com.

Rodriguez cost Monaco 45 million euros last summer and Fernandinho, who faced him for Shakhtar Donetsk in 2011, believes Brazil have to keep him quiet.

"I played against him in the Champions League. It was at the start of his time in Europe and he wasn't yet a first-choice for Porto," added Fernandinho.

"Already in that game he showed his technical quality with his left foot. In this World Cup he is showing everyone that the money Monaco paid for him was well invested. The less space he gets against us, the better it will be for Brazil."
