Cristiano Ronaldo lambasted by Jose

Cristiano Ronaldo addressed the media following Portugal's 2-1 win over Ghana, indicating they created numerous opportunities but just could not convert.

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has been accused of treating his teammates "like subordinates" as the team crashed out in the World Cup group stages.

- Brewin: Ronaldo exits in frustration
- Brassell: Ronaldo efforts not enough for Portugal

Ronaldo, who was troubled by tendinosis problems in his knee and struggled to produce anything like his best form in Brazil, was blasted by former Sporting Lisbon and Benfica manager Manuel Jose, who hit out at his lack of impact.

The Real Madrid star was unable to prevent his team from slipping out of the tournament as they suffered an opening-game thrashing by Germany and ended up third in Group G as the Germans and the U.S. progressed.

"Portugal have been carrying the 'world's best' like a diamond ring that we never had," Jose told TSF Radio. "The other players were treated like subordinates. Completely."

"He is a fantastic player, but every time he speaks he comes out with a blunder.

"He ended up saying that he never believed in the team. If he does not believe in the team, then he doesn't believe in his teammates."

Joe said Portugal's campaign had been a failure, questioning their fitness levels and saying they had failed to adapt to the climate.
