Bayern U-23 skipper joins Nurnberg

Bayern Munich under-23 captain Alessandro Schopf has joined second tier club 1.FC Nurnberg, the clubs announced on Tuesday.

Schopf, 20, played 34 matches and scored 11 goals for the Bundesliga champions' youngsters last season. He joins Kevin Friesenbichler, who has moved to Benfica, in seeking a new challenge away from the Allianz Arena.

The Austrian midfielder will attempt to help Nurnberg bounce back to the top flight at the first attempt following their relegation last season, and kicker reported him as saying: "With this transfer, I want to take the chance to make the next step in my development."

Schopf had also been linked with a transfer to Borussia Monchengladbach, who had been working on a deal since February.

But the two clubs' sporting directors, Max Eberl and Matthias Sammer, fell out after Bayern allegedly approached 17-year-old Sinan Kurt without informing Gladbach officials. Eberl accused Bayern of tapping up the player.
