Netherlands' Robin van Persie and Australia's Tim Cahill have both been ruled out of their sides' final group games after picking up second yellow cards.

The duo both got on the scoresheet in the Group B clash between the Oranje and the Socceroos on Wednesday, but also found themselves receiving a caution from referee Djamel Haimoudi.

Cahill, who netted a stunning strike to level the scores at 1-1, earned a yellow for a late challenge on Bruno Martins Indi, with the defender having to be stretchered off after the tackle.

Van Persie, meanwhile, went into the referee's book for catching Matthew Spiranovic in the face with his arm, before going on to score his side's second of the game.

Cahill will sit out Australia's clash with Spain, while Van Persie will miss Netherlands' match against Chile.
