Hummels brushes off Man United link

Mats Hummels has hinted that he might one day be interested in a move to Manchester United, but a transfer is unlikely this summer.

The Borussia Dortmund defender has been linked with the Red Devils, who are expected to bring in another centre-back after Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic left Old Trafford, amid suggestions he is new manager Louis van Gaal's main target in his position.

Dortmund have always insisted the 25-year-old is not for sale and the player himself has suggested he expects to be at the Westfalenstadion again next season.

"I never think about that or talk about it because it is something that isn't important for me right now," Hummels was quoted as saying in the Daily Telegraph. "Maybe it will be some day, but I don't expect it to be like that this summer."

United are reportedly planning a 10 million-pound move for Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen and have not denied interest in the Belgian.

However, Hummels, who won his 31st cap for Germany and scored his team's second goal in Monday's 4-0 win over Portugal, would require a much greater financial investment.
