While the United States celebrated, Jurgen Klinsmann's Ghanaian counterpart Akwasi Appiah was left to think what could have been after his side let a point slip in their 2-1 loss to the Americans.
"What I can say is that it was a very tough game," said Appiah in the post-match press conference. "Playing at this high level, any little mistake can cost you dearly."
The United States went up right after kickoff on a Clint Dempsey goal just 29 seconds into the game.
"We didn't deserve the first goal against us," said Appiah. "As for the game itself, we did possess and create a lot of chances."
Ghana had the run of play for much of the game with the U.S. forced to play in their defensive third for long stretches and rely on some exceptional saves by goalie Tim Howard to keep them in the lead.
"When you create chances and you aren't able to finish, it gives you doubts," said Appiah. "Looking at the players we have, we will try to make amends."
Ghana play Germany next in a game they'll need some kind of result in to advance to the round of 16. The Germans drubbed Portugal 4-0 and will be a hard test for Ghana.
"Playing against a team like Germany, you have to prepare very well," said Appiah. "It's not going to be easy to qualify."
