Everton to face Leicester in Thailand

Everton have confirmed they will visit Thailand for a preseason friendly against Premier League rivals Leicester City.

Roberto Martinez's side will take on Leicester -- newly promoted after finishing top of last season's Championship -- in Bangkok.

The match, which will take place at the Suphachalasai Stadium on Sunday, July 27, will be Everton's only long-distance preseason trip.

Unlike last summer, when they played three matches in the United States as part of the International Champions Cup, they are not planning a full pre-season tour this year, and will play most of their friendlies closer to home.

The trip to Thailand will be Everton's first since 2005, when they competed with Manchester City and a Thai under-23 side for the Premier League Asia Trophy. The club also visited Thailand as part of their preseason programme in 1989.

Chief executive Robert Elstone told Everton's website: "We are delighted to be able to take the club back to Thailand and against top-quality opposition.

"Leicester showed last year they have the infrastructure and resources to compete at the highest level and we look forward to testing ourselves against them as we get ready for what we hope will be another memorable campaign in both the Premier League and Europe."
