Malaga president to step down

Malaga president Abdullah Al-Thani is quitting the Spanish side.

Malaga president Abdullah Al-Thani has left the Primera Division side citing a lack of "respect, appreciation or equality."

Al-Thani is believed to have become frustrated in his efforts to develop Malaga due to a lack of support from local authorities.

The Sheikh assumed control of the club four years ago, and explained his decision to quit via his official Twitter account.

He said: "In the middle of the month an irreversible decision will be taken. We simply want respect, appreciation, equality and credibility. Not only for me, but for all of Malaga's supporters.

"I am sorry to say this, but I am leaving because here I have not found respect, appreciation or equality."

The highlight of Al-Thani's short reign came with qualification for the Champions League and reaching the quarterfinals in the 2012-13 season before losing in dramatic circumstances to Borussia Dortmund.

However, since then there have been obstacles which have frustrated Al-Thani including the sale of their La Rosaleda stadium and the development of a new training ground.
