Mueller casts doubt over Bayern future

Thomas Mueller is preparing with Germany for the World Cup.

Thomas Mueller has told Stern he is to seek talks with Bayern Munich about his role at the club.

The Bayern forward has reportedly been frustrated with his lack of first-team opportunities under Pep Guardiola, having made 25 Bundesliga starts this season.

Mueller, 24, had been linked with a move to Premier League, but has rejected rumours of reuniting with his former Bayern coach Louis van Gaal at Manchester United.

"I have the feeling that I will play an important role at FC Bayern -- and I 100 percent identify with the club and the people around the club. That's a fact," Mueller told Sport Bild in late May.

"I enjoy playing for Bayern -- actually, there is nothing nicer."

Yet, speaking to the German news magazine Stern ahead of the 2014 World Cup, where Mueller hopes to defend the Golden Boot he won in 2010, he has said that he wants clarity about his role at the Bundesliga champions.

"I have reached a point where I want to know whether I am an integral part of the future Bayern XI ahead of the new season," Mueller, who is under contract at Bayern until 2017, said. "And whether the club really plans with me in the years to come."

Mueller said that he will seek talks with Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge to get clarity over his future. He added: "I am no longer the guy who is happy with playing a good role here and there and keeps his mouth shut so that everyone can do with me whatever he wants."

The attacker has been playing at Bayern for 14 years and worked his way through the ranks at the club before breaking into the first team in the 2009-10 season.
