Angry Le Havre supporters invade pitch after loss to Quevilly

LE HAVRE, France -- Angry fans of second division French side Le Havre spilled onto the field following a 2-0 home defeat to struggling Quevilly on Friday, the second such invasion in French football this month.

After the final whistle, some 120 fans charged onto the pitch at Stade Oceane. They tried to make their way to the entrance to the dressing rooms but were blocked by a line of stewards.

Le Havre are in ninth place and Normandy-based Quevilly are 19th in the 20-team league.

The scenes were almost identical to when angry Lille fans invaded the field after a 1-1 home draw with Montpellier on March 10. The following day, the French football league opened disciplinary proceedings.

Fans of struggling Lille had confronted and threatened players. One player was kicked in the leg and there were more flashpoints between fans and players as stewards struggled to control the situation.

Le Havre fans, however, did not confront players and dispersed after a few moments of heated chanting.
