Miroslav Klose vows to fight for place at Lazio

Lazio forward Miroslav Klose has held talks with coach Stefano Pioli about his lack of action so far this season, although he insists he is not going to leave the Serie A club this winter.

Klose, 36, has started just five times for the Biancocelesti since winning the World Cup with Germany in the summer, and after extending his contract by a year.

Initially rested after the World Cup, Klose then found himself behind summer signing Filip Djordjevic in the pecking order for Pioli's attack and, after failing to fight his way back into the starting XI, Klose admits he "cannot be happy" with the situation.

"I extended my contract with Lazio because I want to keep playing football and because I think I can still help this team," Klose, who has scored three goals this season, told Germany's Welt am Sonntag newspaper.

"I've returned to a good condition, but to be back to my very best I need to play two or three games in a row, but if I'm only getting half a game at best, that's not enough.

"I'm not getting into a rhythm. I've played very few minutes and I cannot say that I'm happy."

Klose would have no lack of options were he to decide to leave Lazio this winter, but after talking to Pioli, he says he is going to knuckle down and win back his place in the Serie A side.

Asked if he had ruled out a January move, he said: "Yes, absolutely. I've discussed it with the coach and he knows how I think and what I want."
