Lazio president Lotito hits out at fans

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has accused the club’s fans of not believing in them after a drop in season ticket sales.

Despite their side winning the Coppa Italia, beating city rivals Roma in the final, only 13,000 fans have bought season tickets at the Stadio Olimpico.

In comparison, almost 20,000 took in home games on season tickets last term.

"What do we have to do to convince our fans to follow us?" Lotito asked. "We won the Coppa Italia, which will go down in our history books, and we are growing - but I see too much indifference.

"We've made lots of changes, positive ones, yet not everybody believes in us.

"The fans ask us not to sell, and they ask us to buy, but what do they do for us?"

Lotito was speaking after witnessing Lazio's 8-0 win over an amateur team in a pre-season friendly on Sunday. Miroslav Klose was on target twice, but Italy international Antonio Candreva was not involved.

Candreva is due to start pre-season training this week after an extended holiday following the Confederations Cup, and Lotito expects him to stay in Rome despite reported interest from Napoli.

"We keep a tight hold on our top players," he said. "It's not as if we go around selling them.

"Napoli have never called me for Candreva. They, like many clubs, have lots of money to spend - but if you don’t put you players up for sale, there is nothing to talk about."
