Pete Vagenas will no longer serve as general manager of the LA Galaxy, the club announced on Tuesday, two days after concluding its worst season.
Sigi Schmid, who was named coach in July, will take over Vagenas' player personnel duties this offseason. Vagenas will remain with the club as vice president of soccer operations.
The Galaxy finished with just 32 points from 34 games, level with D.C. United for the lowest total in the league. Their eight wins was also the fewest in MLS.
Vagenas only took up the GM role last November following the departure of Bruce Arena, who served as both coach and GM before he signed on for a second stint as United States national team boss.
"The results this season did not meet the standard and expectations of this club, our fans and this city," Galaxy president Chris Klein said in a statement. "Sigi has a proven track record building championship-caliber teams in MLS.
"He understands this league, its players and its structure as well as anyone in soccer and we have full confidence in him as we enter this offseason to strengthen our roster ahead of 2018."
As GM, Vagenas was in charge of player acquisition, scouting and management of the coaching staff. He promoted LA Galaxy II coach Curt Onalfo to replace Arena, then fired him in July after a poor start.
Results did not improve under Schmid, who managed just two wins in his 14 league games in charge.
Vagenas played for the Galaxy for nine seasons, then served as director of LA's academy before being named vice president in January 2016.
