The LA Galaxy have hired Dominic Kinnear as an assistant coach, the MLS club announced on Tuesday.
The former Houston Dynamo coach, who ranks third among MLS coaches with 166 career wins, joins Sigi Schmid's staff after parting ways with the San Jose Earthquakes in June.
"Dominic's resume speaks for itself as one of the most successful coaches in MLS history," Schmid said in a statement. "He is a successful and experienced coach who will provide a great deal of value to our staff and our players.
"He is highly regarded throughout our league and we are thrilled to add both a coach and person of his caliber to this group."
Only Schmid and former Galaxy coach Bruce Arena have earned more wins in MLS.
Known as a defensive-minded coach, Kinnear is also one of just four bosses to win multiple MLS Cups, accomplishing the feat with the Dynamo in 2006 and 2007.
But he failed to make the playoffs in his first two years with the Earthquakes and soon found himself out of a job under new general manager Jesse Fioranelli.
The Galaxy have endured a woeful season after Arena left to take over the United States national team after last season.
His successor Curt Onalfo was sacked in July, and Schmid has yet to turn around their fortunes, with the club just one point above the Colorado Rapids for the lowest point total in the league.

"With his resume as a coach, talent evaluator and architect of successful teams in our league, Dominic will be an invaluable addition to Sigi, [general manager] Pete [Vagenas] and our soccer operations staff as we continue to build our team.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy have been dealt another blow as Schmid confirmed that right-back Pele van Anholt tore the ACL and meniscus in his right knee in Sunday's defeat to the San Jose Earthquakes.
The 26-year-old only joined the Galaxy six weeks ago as an injury replacement for Robbie Rogers, who is out for the season with a serious ankle injury.
