LA Galaxy sign forwards Mike Magee and Emmanuel Boateng

The LA Galaxy signed former MLS MVP Mike Magee and Ghanaian forward Emmanuel Boateng on Thursday.

Magee, a free agent, won two MLS Cup titles and became a fan-favorite during his first tenure with the Galaxy from 2009-13.

"I'm beyond excited to be coming back and beyond happy that the Galaxy wanted me back. I'm excited to get to work and to see some people that I'm really close with and have a lot of love for," Magee said. "Getting to play in front of the Angel City Brigade, the Riot Squad, and the Galaxians is an amazing experience, so I'm looking forward to being back."

The forward spent the past three seasons with the Chicago Fire after he was traded for defender Robbie Rogers, who was re-signed by the Galaxy earlier in the week.

Magee scored 21 goals and won the MVP award in 2013 despite the midseason trade for Rogers, who emerged as an elite MLS defender, but he has played in just 29 games over the past two years because of injury.

"Mike has shown that he is one of the most versatile and effective players in our league," Galaxy manager Bruce Arena said. "He is familiar with our club and will be a key part of our team on and off the field. We look forward to Mike joining to our roster."

Later in the day, the Galaxy aquired Boateng from Swedish club Helsingborgs for an undisclosed fee.

Mike Magee will return for a second spell with the LA Galaxy.

Boateng, 21, was born in Ghana and as a teenager moved to California, where he was named the top high school player in the country in 2012. He played one year at UC Santa Barbara.

"Emmanuel is a talented, young, attacking player who will add valuable depth to our offense," said Arena. "He will continue to develop as a player and we are excited to add him to our roster."

The Galaxy traded their only pick of Thursday's MLS SuperDraft to the Colorado Rapids in exchange for targeted allocation money as the club continues to stockpile cash in their reported pursuit of Ashley Cole and/or Joleon Lescott.
