The 18-year-old, regarded as Malaysia's current top prospect, has spent the past few months being linked with a move to Kortrijk, owned by Malaysian businessman Vincent Tan.

His transfer from Malaysia Super League outfit Selangor was reportedly delayed due to complications from travel restrictions arising from the coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement on the club's official website, Kortrijk labelled Hakim as "one of the greatest talents of his generation" and said the contract would be for five years.

Hakim rose to prominence two years ago at the 2018 AFC U-16 Championship when he had four goals in the tournament opener, as hosts Malaysia defeated Tajikistan 6-2.

The speedy attacker scored again in Malaysia's next match against Thailand but was then sent off for a high challenge on opposition goalkeeper Anuchid Taweesri.

Having been part of Malaysia's Mokhtar Dahari Academy until last year, Hakim initially signed on to play for Selangor's second team in 2020.
