AFC Leopards coach quells resignation reports

AFC Leopards head coach Rodolfo Zapata has dismissed reports that he's set to quit the club at the end of 2018 Kenyan Premier League season.

The Argentine coach has come under increasing pressure after the recent bad run that was compounded with the 1-0 loss to Sofapaka in the Sportpesa Shield semi final on Sunday.

The result ensures the team will end the season without a trophy, and preceded rumours that the coach had revealed to the players that he would not be with the team next season.

Leopards suffered their worst defeat of the season against Tusker FC in midweek when they were defeated 4-0 in Machakos, but refuted suggestions that he was primed to quit the club.

"I don't know where these reports are coming from," he told KweséESPN. "It's not true that I resigned after last Sunday's game.

"What happened is that I had a meeting with the players and told them I will give everybody an opportunity to play in the remaining matches of the season."

The South American tactician also revealed that he's preparing a report for the club's National Executive Committee, which will provide an overview of the team's performance this season and what needs to improved upon.

"At the end of the season, I will give a report to the NEC, who are going to decide what's best for the team," he added. "For now I remain the coach and I am focused on the remaining matches."

Zapata joined AFC Leopards in April 2018 from Gaborone United. He replaced Tanzanian Dennis Kitambi, who quit after serving as interim coach for two months.
