Kenya football federation reveal dire financial plight

The Federation of Kenya Football are facing serious financial challenges ahead of the two upcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games in October, according to FKF spokesman Barry Otieno.

Although the Haramebee Stars appear to be on the upswing, having picked up more points than any other nation in the world according to the September FIFA world rankings, a source within the federation has informed KweséESPN that national team coach Sebastien Migne hasn't been paid for several months.

"We have serious financial challenges," Otieno acknowledged to KweséESPN. "The Federation is currently having issues of cash flow, and we are working around the clock to try and solve the problem.

"We continue to engage with the government with a view of resolving this challenge."

French coach Migne, who was appointed in May, oversaw a surprise 1-0 victory over Ghana in September's AFCON qualifier, before the Stars dispatched Malawi in an international friendly.

Last month, Kenya also announced that they could not host the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup because of financial challenges.

The Kenya FA President Nick Mwendwa noted that the federation were also dealing with cases involving the payment of two former national team coaches, Adel Amrouche and Bobby Williamson.

The Kenyan government, through the Ministry of Sports, is fully responsible for overseeing Kenya's national team.
