Kenya confirm Paul Put resignation

Paul Put has resigned from his role as head coach of the Kenya national side, the nation's football federation confirmed on Monday.

The Belgian had been in the post for just three months after being appointed in November, but the FKF have confirmed that he's left his post due to 'personal reasons'.

"Football Kenya Federation wishes to inform the general public that Mr. Paul Put has officially resigned as the Kenya National Football Team, Harambee Stars, Head Coach, citing personal reasons," read a statement on the federation's Twitter handle.

"We wish him well in his future endeavours."

The 61-year-old had been appointed as Stanley Okumbi's successor in November, and had enjoyed early success during his tenure - winning the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in late 2017.

Okumbi has now returned to the role in an interim capacity following Put's exit so early into his two-year contract, and will now be charged with overseeing the East Africans' African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

Kenya have been drawn alongside Sierra Leone, Ghana and Ethiopia, and were beaten 2-1 by the Leone Stars in their opening fixture.

Before taking over the Harambee Stars job, Put has enjoyed stints with The Gambia, Burkina Faso and Jordan, while he also oversaw a spell with Algerian heavyweights USM Alger.

He has been linked with the vacant Guinea head coach role following Kanfory Bangoure's dismissal in light of the African Nations Championship.
